Basketball Practices

From the 13th of November to the 15th of March, I participated in the basketball team practices.

It was the hardest CAS activity for me, because I usually give up on sports activities, but I managed to come to most of the basketball practices. Although, I didn't get accepted to the basketball team, I chose to fight for my place by going to the practices, in order to improve my fitness level and develop a new skill. At first I felt horrible, during the basketball practices, because I never played in the basketball team, so I was less experienced and skilled from the rest. However, slowly by slowly from one practice to another I became better. I scored more baskets, I had more successful passes, and as a defender I stopped more baskets to be scored. I also recognized the strengths and areas of growth that I have in the basketball game. During the basketball practices I found out that I am really good in scoring the baskets in the hoop in a sequential order (more than one or two times). However I found, that my main weaknesses, during a basketball game is to defend the players well, pass accurately with power, and be at a steady move around the whole court. Therefore those were the specific areas in the basketball game that I needed to grow and improve in. In addition, I learned how to work collaboratively with the people in the team. During a basketball game they passed to me more times, and I had more successful passes to them where, they scored the baskets. The one difficulty I had during the basketball practices is to understand the Strategies of the players standing and passing in offense and defense. For me, it was very hard to stand at the side and watch their moves, as I wanted to play all the time. There was a period where, I argued with the coach because I missed several practices due to exam purposes, But in order to show responsibility, in my own free time I ran 5 km and went to the basketball court to practice my basketball skills.
All in all, participating in the basketball practices, gave me a new experience of a sport, I always feared of, but at the end I developed a new skill by actually scoring baskets in a basketball game practice, I undertook a new challenge by being the worst player in the court and learning for the first time the theory and action behind the basketball game, I worked together with the players that on the team by them supporting me and teaching me some skills of the basketball game(e.g. the technique of the hands in throwing the basketball), and finally I increased my awareness of the strengths I have in the basketball game and the weaknesses I have, so that I improve in those areas.

Overall I participated in 21 hours of basketball practices, out of the total 28 hours of basketball practices. In the percentage calculation, I participated in 75% of the total basketball practices.
